While many people continue to migrate from Facebook to Instagram, others haven’t ditched Facebook yet. And several folks continue to use Facebook and Instagram. If you too are also among those, I’m sure the thought of cross-posting from Facebook to Instagram must have crossed your mind at least once.

While there's no official Instagram for Mac app available to download, users of the social network do have the option of heading to Instagram.com on a Mac. The basic web app gives you access to. The easiest way to use Repost for Instagram – Regrann for PC (32/64 bit) Windows & Mac (10.0 or Later) is installing an Android emulator like Bluestacks or Nox Player on your Computer or Mac. Cross-posting is useful when you want to post the same content on both the platforms regularly. Imagine the trouble of opening each app, searching the photo, and uploading it. Ugh! Fortunately, Facebook does let you post to Instagram directly, albeit with a few restrictions.

What are they? And how to post from Facebook to Instagram? Let’s find the answers here.

Can You Really Publish from Facebook to Instagram

Yes. You can. However, the feature is available for Facebook business pages only. You cannot post from your personal Facebook profile to Instagram.

Further, the feature is currently limited to the Facebook website only. You cannot cross-post from the Facebook mobile apps.

Can We Cross-Post Stories and Posts

No. Stories aren’t supported yet. As of now, only posts can be directly published from Facebook to Instagram. And that too, only the posts having a single picture. Multiple photos cannot be cross-posted.

Publish from Facebook to Instagram

To post content from Facebook to Instagram, you have to link your Instagram account to your Facebook page. Only after successfully doing that you can cross-post. Kindly note, by doing so, you will not be able to post from Instagram to Facebook. For that, you will have to link them in the Instagram app.

After linking, you need to select Instagram every time you post. Don’t get confused. Here are the steps in detail.

How to Link Instagram to Facebook Page

Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Launch the Facebook website and open the Facebook page on your computer with which you want to link your Instagram.

Step 2: On the page, click on the Settings at the top.

Step 3: From the left sidebar, click on Instagram.

Step 4: Hit the Login button next to ‘Add your Instagram’ and sign in with your Instagram credentials.

Once you have successfully linked your Instagram account on Facebook, follow these steps:

Step 1: Click on the Page option at the top to go to the main section of your Facebook page.

Step 2: Click on the Write a post box. Hopefully, you will see the option to post on Instagram.

Step 3: Add a single photo and check the box next to Instagram. If you upload multiple pictures, the Instagram option will be grayed out. Finally, hit the Share now button.

That’s how you can cross-post from Facebook to Instagram.

Share Facebook Posts to Instagram on Mobile

Since the Facebook mobile apps do not support the above method, you can try an alternative way or a hack to cross-post.

Open any published photo on Facebook by tapping on it. That will open the image in the full-screen mode. Then tap on the three-dot icon at the top-right corner and hit Share external.

From the menu, select Feed. That will open the photo in the Instagram app. You can even choose Stories to post it on Instagram stories. Finally, publish it on Instagram.

Even though the above method isn’t a proper way to cross-post, it has its benefits. For instance, it works for both personal profiles and business pages. Further, you don’t even need to log in to Instagram on the Facebook app to use this method.

Use Third-Party Sites

If the above methods don’t suit your needs, you can try the third-party service such as Hootsuite. It offers a free plan where you can add up to three social networks including Facebook and Instagram. You can even cross post on other social networks, but that would require the premium version.

Things to Keep in Mind

To reiterate, here’s what you need to be aware of while using the built-in cross-posting feature on Facebook.

  • You can use the built-in cross-posting feature for single posts only.
  • The feature is restricted to Facebook pages.
  • You cannot publish an old Facebook post to Instagram.
  • Stories cannot be cross-posted from Facebook to Instagram.

Is There Any Worthy Alternative

As you have seen above, the feature to cross-post from Facebook to Instagram is currently limited in many ways. However, things are incredibly different for cross-posting from Instagram to Facebook.

So, basically, instead of using Facebook as your primary medium to post, you should start with Instagram and use its capabilities to publish on Facebook. By doing so, you get the ability to cross-post from mobile apps. And not only can you publish posts but the feature is available for stories too.

Further, you can use it for personal Facebook profiles also. That is, you can publish from your Instagram profile to Facebook profile. However, the only area where the feature lacks is for multiple photos. Meaning, Instagram posts with multiple pictures cannot be cross-posted on Facebook.

The Bad Side

While cross-posting is quite helpful, it has its drawbacks. For starters, the audience is different on Instagram and Facebook. You should only use it when the post caters to both the audiences. Secondly, sometimes, cross-posting fails. While you may see a confirmation message, it's not posted. To avoid that, you should always check Instagram after cross-posting from Facebook or vice versa.

Repost For Instagram Mac

Instagram is one of the few social media platforms where you’re discouraged from sharing posts belonging to others. There’s no easy way (yet) to share photos, videos, or Stories on the native Instagram platform, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

If finding and reposting awesome content created by others is more your speed, read on. We’ll talk about how to easily repost photos and videos on Instagram and avoid legal issues.

Is it legal to repost on Instagram?

While it seems like the internet is a lawless land, where folks share all kinds of content without giving it much thought, the truth is that it is illegal to repost copyright-protected content that you don’t have permission to share.

According to Instagram’s Community Guidelines, you should only share photos and videos that you’ve taken or that you have the right to share. If you do want to share content created by others, always ask permission to repost the photo or video on your Instagram, give proper credit within your caption, and tag the image with their Instagram handle.

Reposting an Instagram Story

Instagram Stories let you create and share multiple photos, videos, polls, and other content that is put together in a slideshow format for your followers to watch over the course of 24 hours. Using Instagram Stories is essential to growing an engaged following on Instagram, and reposting Stories is a great way to build up your community.

How to repost an Instagram Story

As a general rule, Instagram has never been about sharing content posted by other users, but in the summer 2018, the platform rolled out a new feature — the ability to share Stories you’re tagged with on your own Instagram account. This has been a game changer in many ways, making Instagram Stories one of the best ways to connect with your followers.

If a friend tags you in one of their Stories, you will get a direct message from Instagram letting you know. For the next 24 hours, you’ll be able to repost the Story.

Here’s how to repost an Instagram Story you’ve been tagged in:

  1. Go to Instagram > Direct Messages.
  2. Open the message that says “@username has mentioned you in their story.”
  3. Tap Add This to Your Story.
  4. In the Story editor, you can add stickers, additional tags, and text, just as if it were a Story you created yourself.
  5. Tap your profile icon with Your Story written underneath.

Your new Story is live!

Can I repost an Instagram Story I’m not tagged in?

If you’re using the native Instagram app, you can only save and repost Stories that you’re tagged in. When someone tags you in a Story, they are essentially giving you permission to repost it.

If you have verbal permission to repost an Instagram Story but haven’t been tagged in it, there’s an iPhone workaround that you can use with your built-in screen recorder.

Here’s how to record someone’s Story and save it to your Camera Roll:

  1. Go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls.
  2. Scroll down until you see Screen Recording and tap the plus sign. This will add the screen recorder to your swipe up screen, where you’ll also find your flashlight, camera, and other shortcuts.
  3. When you want to record an Instagram Story, just swipe up and tap the red record button. Swipe back down to return to the Story. Your screen recorder will record everything on the screen, including sound, until you swipe up and tap the Record icon again.

Screen recordings are automatically saved to Camera Roll. Once you’ve saved someone’s Instagram Story as a video, you can edit it and repost it to your own Story. You should always give proper credit by tagging the original Instagram account, and again, you should never repost someone’s Story without permission.

Can I see who shared my Instagram Story?

As you already know, whenever you’re tagged in someone’s Instagram Story, you receive a direct message letting you know that you have been mentioned. You will get this message whether you’re being tagged in one of the user’s original Stories or one of your own Stories that they are reposting.

However, if someone creates a screen recording of your Story, saves it to their Camera Roll, and then reposts it, you won’t be notified unless they voluntarily tag you. This is because they have essentially created a new Story using your content. If someone shares your Story in a private message, you won’t be notified either.

Reposting an Instagram post

There are definitely ways to repost photos and videos on Instagram, and as long as you have permission from the post’s original creator, it’s totally fine to do so. None of the reposting methods available are completely straightforward, as Instagram is primarily focused on creating original content, not sharing the content of others.

Here are some ways that we’ve found to repost photos and videos to your Instagram feed or Stories.

How to repost photos and videos on Instagram

Probably the simplest way to repost photos and videos on Instagram is to take a screenshot or make a screen recording of the post you want to share. We already talked about taking a screen recording using the feature in your iPhone’s settings.

To take a screenshot of an Instagram photo, simply navigate to the post you want to share, and hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time. This will capture whatever is on your screen and save it to your Camera Roll.

After the screenshot is taken, tap on its preview to crop the image and get rid of the Instagram logo, comments, and other distractions. Once you’ve edited the photo, you can repost it to your Instagram feed.

Can you repost an Instagram post to your Stories?

Yes! Instagram rolled out a feature last year that makes this very easy to do using the native Instagram app. If you find an Instagram photo or video that you want to repost in your

Stories, just do this:

  1. Navigate to the post and tap on the paper airplane icon below the post.
  2. From there, tap on the plus sign to add the post to your Story Editor.

You can customize the post in your Stories making it smaller or larger, adding stickers or text. When you finally share it with your followers, Instagram will automatically tag the post’s original creator.

Can you repost Instagram posts with captions?

Repost Instagram Machen

The easiest way to repost Instagram posts with captions that you have permission to share is to use a third-party app. The most popular of these is Repost for Instagram, allowing you to repost with just a few taps.

Repost for Instagram adds a small watermark to the corner of the post, providing attribution to the original creator. You should also tag the creator both on the image and in the captions. Once you’ve got the post uploaded in Repost for Instagram, you can copy and paste the original caption to add to your post.

Can you repost your own post on Instagram?

You can definitely repost your own photo or video on Instagram. In fact, this is a great way to repurpose your content. You just need to be careful that you’re not reposting the same photo or video so many times that it gets old to your followers.

You can use the Repost for Instagram app mentioned above, which will tag you in its included watermark. Your alternative option would be to screenshot your photo, crop it in a photo editing app, and repost that way.

Until Instagram embraces sharing content across its platform, you’ll have to get creative with how you do it. The most important things to remember when reposting on Instagram are to always ask permission and to give proper attribution. If you’ve covered your bases legally, Instagram is perfectly happy with you sharing the best content you can find across your feed and your Stories.
